Zhiben Hot Spring

Sodium bicarbonate springs nestled in a forested valley — Taitung's most developed hot spring district
📍 Taitung · Beinan Township · Zhiben🏞️ Nature🔖 Sodium bicarbonate springs · Forest valley scenery · Hot spring village

Zhiben Hot Spring is the largest and most fully equipped hot spring area in Taitung County. The water is a sodium bicarbonate spring — colorless and odorless, with temperatures around 50 to 60°C — often called a "beauty spring." The hot spring district extends along the Zhiben River valley, flanked by lush forest on both sides and a mild climate, making it the most convenient hot spring retreat near Taitung City.

Highlights of Zhiben Hot Spring

Zhiben Hot Spring is located in Zhiben Village, Beinan Township, about 18 km from Taitung City, extending into the mountains along the Zhiben River valley. The spring water is a mildly alkaline sodium bicarbonate type, gentle on the skin. The district is home to numerous hotels and public bathhouses, ranging from budget communal pools to upscale resort hotels, with options to suit different needs. The forested landscape along both riverbanks is well preserved, creating a strong natural ambiance for strolling.

Beyond soaking, there are hiking trails along the Zhiben River banks, and the surrounding forest is an excellent birdwatching spot — Oriental Magpie-Robin, Common Kingfisher, and other species may be spotted. Zhiben Hot Spring is also near Puyuma (Beinan) tribe settlements; some hotels offer indigenous cultural experience activities, though specific programs should be confirmed directly with individual hotels in advance.
