Wangyou Valley (Wangyou Gu)

A valley trail where pampas grass turns golden in winter — a natural viewpoint overlooking Shen'ao Bay
📍 Keelung · Xinyi District, Beining Road🏞️ Nature🔖 Pampas Grass Valley

Wangyou Valley sits in the valley between the Badouzi Peninsula and Shen'ao Bay, with pampas grass and mixed woodland as its dominant vegetation. In winter (roughly November through January), the pampas grass turns golden yellow. The trail runs along the valley floor to a lookout platform with views extending to Shen'ao Bay and the northern coastline.

What to See at Wangyou Valley

The topography of Wangyou Valley is shaped by the Badouzi Peninsula landform, with hills surrounding the valley on both sides and a more open floor below. The vegetation is predominantly Taiwan pampas grass (Miscanthus sinensis var. formosanus) — green in summer and golden yellow in winter, which is the main seasonal change in the trail's scenery. The lookout platform at the end of the trail sits at an elevated position with views facing Shen'ao Bay, where you can take in the coastal outline and the sea beyond.

The trail gradient is moderate throughout and requires no special equipment. Keelung receives frequent rain, and the trail can become muddy after wet weather; waterproof or grippy-soled footwear is recommended. There are no large visitor facilities here — this is a natural trail, so bring your own water.
