Sihu Township is a major aquaculture production area for Taiwan tilapia (Oreochromis), and its extensive fish ponds connect with Kouhu and Dongshi townships to form Yunlin's coastal aquaculture belt. The sunrise reflected on the pond surfaces at dawn, and the direct-purchase opportunities at the annual Taiwan Tilapia Industry Culture Festival, make this agricultural and fishing plain a distinctive destination.

Highlights of the Sihu Tilapia Aquaculture Area

Sihu Township lies on Yunlin's coast, on low-lying terrain covered in ditches and fish ponds. Taiwan tilapia originates from the Nile River basin in Africa; after being introduced to Taiwan and selectively bred, it has become Taiwan's most widely farmed freshwater fish, and Sihu Township is one of the key production centers. Driving along the township roads, you can see vast stretches of fish ponds; when morning light falls on the water, the reflected glimmer creates a striking visual spectacle.

The county government and township office jointly hold the Taiwan Tilapia Industry Culture Festival (dates announced annually), with activities including an agricultural and fisheries expo, direct farm purchases, a fresh-catch market, and agricultural education. During the festival, you can buy directly from fish farmers at prices that differ from the market rate, and it is also an opportunity to understand the full production chain from aquaculture to table.
