Built during the Qing Qianlong era, Yizhu Weng-Ma Temple has been the spiritual center of Yizhu Township residents for generations. The temple preserves traditional mosaic-chip appliqué (jiǎnniān) and Jiaozhi ceramic decorations, serving as an important witness to the folk-faith culture and traditional architectural art of southern Chiayi County. It is well suited to visitors with an interest in Taiwanese temple craftsmanship and local religious tradition.

Highlights of Yizhu Weng-Ma Temple

Weng-Ma Temple was first built during the Qing Qianlong era and enshrines Lord Weng Fu Qiansui (Weng Fu Thousand-Year Lord) as its principal deity, serving as the core temple of Yizhu Township's traditional faith. Renovations over successive generations preserved portions of the original decorative craftsmanship: the mosaic-chip roof ridges piece together dragon, phoenix, flower, and bird patterns from colored glass and ceramic shards, while the Jiaozhi ceramic figures are vivid in modeling, reflecting the local character and historical layers of southern Taiwanese temple craft.

Yizhu Township lies at the southwestern edge of Chiayi County in a flat agricultural zone. Weng-Ma Temple provided spiritual sustenance for the township's farming communities. The traditional street fabric of Yizhu Village around the temple remains intact; the temple forecourt and surrounding spaces become the focal gathering point for local activities during festivals. Even on quiet days the temple exudes the tranquil atmosphere and warmth of a rural southern Taiwanese village temple.
