Zhutang Township is located in the southwestern corner of Changhua County along the north bank of the Zhuoshui River. Farmland wetlands and riverside marshes within the township form a rich ecological corridor that serves as a stopover for migrating birds. A cycling path runs along the Dongluo River, offering views of both the rural landscape and waterbirds. It is one of Changhua County's lesser-developed natural ecology corners.
What to see at the Zhutang Wetland Ecological Area
Zhutang Township's agriculture centers on rice. Irrigation for paddy fields creates a large expanse of farmland wetlands, and the riverside marshes along the north bank of the Zhuoshui River provide habitat for a variety of waterbirds. During the autumn and winter migratory bird season (roughly October to March of the following year), multiple species of herons, ducks, and sandpipers can be observed at the edges of the fields and along the riverbank. The farmland ecology of Changhua County is well preserved, making this one of the few agricultural wetland habitats remaining on the western plain.
A cycling path runs along the bank of the Dongluo River with a flat surface. Views along the route alternate between riverside marshland and farmland. The rural settlements of Zhutang Township maintain the traditional village layout of the Changhua Plain, with no large-scale development. Cycling slowly through the farmland allows you to feel the agricultural pace of life in the southwestern corner of Changhua County.
How to make the most of your visit
Practical information
Getting there & timing
- Zhutang Township has no train station. Driving or riding a scooter is required. From Beidou Township, head west along Provincial Highway 14 for about 15 minutes to reach the Xipan Village area.
- The wetland ecology is observable year-round. Autumn and winter (October to March) are best for birdwatching; spring and autumn harvest seasons offer the most scenic farmland.
Nearby connections
- Beidou Township is about 15 minutes away; combining this with Beidou Dian'an Temple makes a southern Changhua day trip mixing temple culture with natural ecology.
- Continuing west leads to the Dacheng Zhuoshui River estuary, extending the itinerary along the west coast for more natural ecology.
