Xpark opened in 2020, planned and designed with the involvement of the Yokohama Hakkeijima Group of Japan. It is the first aquarium in Taiwan positioned as an urban aquatic park. The facility displays over 200 aquatic species across multiple zones covering ocean, freshwater, and polar environments, with an immersive spatial design approach and educational content on Taiwan's local aquatic ecosystems.
What to See at Xpark Aquarium
Xpark's exhibition logic differs from the encyclopedic species display of a traditional large-scale aquarium. Each zone takes a specific ecosystem or geographic region as its theme. Through deliberate choices of lighting, spatial scale, and viewing angle, each zone delivers a distinct sensory environment. The main ocean tank presents multi-species co-swimming through a curved glass panel, and the depth-planned sightlines give the overall sense of water volume a stronger feeling of spatial depth.
Inside the museum there is a touch pool where visitors can have close-contact experiences with specific species; staff are present during open sessions to explain species ecology. The polar zone centers its exhibit on penguins, with the space temperature and flooring simulating an Antarctic environment — a stark contrast to the tropical palette of other zones. Special exhibitions and educational events are held periodically; themes are updated with the annual program and can be checked before your visit.
