Daxi Yuemei Constructed Wetland

A supplementary natural ecology point along the Dahan River focused on aquatic plant restoration with birdwatching opportunities
📍 Taoyuan · Daxi District · Yuemei🏞️ Nature🔖 Habitat for heron and duck species · birdwatching trail · natural ecology spot near Daxi Old Street

Daxi Yuemei Constructed Wetland was established by the Taoyuan City Government, using the Dahan River bank topography to plan for aquatic plant restoration and natural water quality purification. The wetland environment provides habitat for egrets, night herons, ducks, and other waterbirds; birdwatching trails and observation platforms are available. It is a rare natural ecology space near Daxi Old Street, suitable for a relaxing walk into nature after visiting the old street.

Highlights of Daxi Yuemei Constructed Wetland

Yuemei Constructed Wetland is located along the Dahan River bank, using low-lying terrain to create aquatic plant restoration areas. The wetland is divided into different water zones planted with lotus, water lilies, reeds, and other aquatic plants, presenting different plant landscapes by season. The water purification function is achieved through the cooperative action of plant root systems and microorganisms — a practical example of a "water-resource-friendly facility" on the fringe of an urban area in Taiwan.

Birdwatching trails run along the edges of the wetland water zones, with wooden boardwalks and observation platforms. Common bird species include egrets, night herons, little egrets, grey herons, and other heron-family birds, as well as various duck species. During the migratory bird passage season (autumn and winter, approximately October to March of the following year), species diversity is greater. The trail is fairly level throughout, suitable for all ages and requiring no special equipment.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

🦢
Early morning is the best time for birdwatchingWaterbirds are most active at dawn and dusk. Early mornings offer soft light and active foraging birds — the best window for watching egrets take flight and night herons perch.
🌿
Summer aquatic plant bloom (June–September)Lotus and water lilies are in full bloom from June to September. The wetland surface is covered with broad green leaves and pink-white flowers — the visually richest season of the year.
🔭
Bring binoculars for birdwatchingBinoculars greatly enhance the birdwatching experience; 8×42 magnification is recommended. For unfamiliar species, a birdwatching app (such as eBird) can help with identification.
