Hutou Mountain stands at 251 meters above sea level, the highest point within Taoyuan District. A viewpoint platform at the summit offers views on clear days extending to the Taiwan Strait and across the flat plain of Taoyuan City. The park has multiple trails of varying difficulty, the Orson Forest Learning Center, and other facilities. Because it is adjacent to the Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine and Shrine Cultural Park, it combines conditions for both nature hiking and cultural visiting. It is one of the urban hillside parks most frequently used by Taoyuan City residents in their daily lives.

What to See at Hutou Mountain Park

Hutou Mountain is rolling terrain with a moderate gradient; the trail routes differ noticeably in length and steepness and can be chosen according to physical ability. The main trail from the park entrance to the summit viewpoint takes about 30 to 40 minutes, with a well-paved surface and good tree cover along the way — summer hiking is not excessively hot. The view from the summit platform is among the most open of any Taoyuan City urban park; you can trace the topographic outline of the Taoyuan City plain extending to the coast.

The Orson Forest Learning Center inside the park is a facility themed around children's nature education, with timber play structures and ecological interpretation — suitable for family visitors. In the early morning, the trails are mostly used by local residents on fitness walks; in the afternoon, more families and student visitors appear. The park is adjacent to the former Taoyuan Shrine site (Martyrs' Shrine), sharing part of the entrance road, and the two can be conveniently scheduled for a same-day visit.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

🌄
Summit on a Clear DayTaoyuan Plain is flat; on a clear day you can see in the direction of Taoyuan Airport and the distant sea. On overcast or foggy days visibility is limited — pick good weather for the climb.
🌿
Morning HikeFrom 5 to 8 a.m. the trails are cool and less crowded — a good time to enjoy the tree-shaded trail and observe birds moving through the forest.
👶
Orson Forest Learning CenterThe center's facilities are primarily designed for children under 12; the timber play structures and nature education design are suitable for families with kids.
⛩️
Combine with the Martyrs' Shrine on the Same DayThe two entrances are close together. A practical sequence is to visit the Japanese shrine architecture of the martyrs' shrine first, then continue to the Hutou Mountain trail hike — the two connect seamlessly.
