The station opened in 1922, was decommissioned in 2001, and was repurposed as an arts village in 2003, with its attached engine shed registered as a historic building in 2002. The complex hosts artist studios and is home to Tiehua Music Village, which regularly stages live music performances, making it the most culturally vibrant arts space in Taitung City.

The old Taitung Train Station opened in 1922 (Taisho era) and was decommissioned on June 1, 2001, when the Taitung Line was rerouted; the site was converted into the Railway Arts Village in 2003. Its attached engine shed was registered as a historic building by the Taitung County Government in December 2002, the only remaining semi-wooden engine shed in eastern Taiwan.
