📍 Taitung · Taitung City · Nanwang Village⛩️ Historic sites🔖 Prehistoric site · Archaeological trail · Prehistory museum

Beinan Cultural Park is built upon the largest prehistoric site in Taiwan. The site dates back approximately 3,000 to 5,000 years and has yielded a large number of artifacts including stone slab coffins, jade objects, and pottery. The park features an outdoor archaeological trail and the National Museum of Prehistory (the Prehistory Museum), making it the most comprehensive site in Taiwan for learning about prehistoric civilization.

Highlights of Beinan Cultural Park

The Beinan Site was extensively uncovered during construction of the new Taitung Train Station in the 1980s and is one of the most important prehistoric archaeological discoveries in Taiwan. The cultural layer belongs to the Beinan culture, characterized by stone slab coffin burial. Some stone slab coffins remain on display in situ at the park, and the outdoor archaeological trail allows visitors to observe the site at close range and understand the spatial layout of the prehistoric settlement.

The National Museum of Prehistory, adjacent to the park, systematically presents Taiwan's prehistoric and indigenous cultures, with a rich collection and thorough explanations, suitable for in-depth visits. The museum also has a children's interactive exhibition area, suitable for family visits. The area around the park is home to Nanwang Village (Puyuma Village), which is geographically close, allowing visitors to connect the prehistoric and contemporary cultural threads of the Puyuma people.
