A site of human activity spanning ten thousand years, with views over Shezi Island and the Tamsui River — free admission
📍 Taipei · Shilin District · Section 1, Zhicheng Road🏞️ Nature🔖 Archaeological Site

Zhishan Rock has recorded evidence of human activity spanning more than 10,000 years. Artifacts unearthed here span from prehistoric cultures to the Pingpu indigenous culture layer, making it one of the most important archaeological sites within Taipei City. Huiji Temple sits atop the small hill, where you can look out over Shezi Island and the Tamsui River basin. The park is open year-round and free of charge.

Highlights of Zhishan Rock Archaeological Park

The archaeological significance of Zhishan Rock lies in the completeness of its cultural layers — ranging from the early Neolithic Dabenkeng culture through the subsequent Holo culture, Botanical Garden culture, and the Pingpu Ketagalan culture, all of which left traces here — placing it among the most important sites in Taipei. Interpretive signs throughout the park explain the chronological sequence of each cultural layer and its representative artifacts, making it a good stop for visitors interested in prehistoric Taiwan.

Huiji Temple at the hilltop is a local place of worship; the plaza in front of the temple offers views looking down toward the Tamsui River and Shezi Island. The park's vegetation is well preserved and the loop trail around the hill is easy, suitable for all ages. The nearby old Shilin street district and Zhishan Cultural Ecological Garden offer extended historical and nature experiences and can be combined into a half-day Shilin cultural itinerary.
