Zhenxing Community has placed community-building at its core, painting murals on the exterior walls of rural buildings with themes of rural life and Hakka culture. It is one of Pingtung's agricultural communities attempting a cultural revitalization approach to tourism. Yanpu Township's main crops are betel nut and wax apple; the mural village gives outside visitors a chance to see local self-expression alongside an agricultural landscape.
Highlights of Yanpu Mural Village
The mural project in Zhenxing Community was driven jointly by residents and artists. The mural themes are largely drawn from everyday rural life: harvesting, duck farming, bamboo grove labor, and similar scenes rendered in bright colors with a folk-naive aesthetic. Compared to some commercial mural villages, Zhenxing Community is smaller in scale with fewer crowds — a more unpretentious atmosphere.
The agricultural landscape of Yanpu Township serves as the visual backdrop for the mural village; wax apple orchards (November to March) and betel nut groves line the farm roads. The mural village itself is not large; a visit takes about 30 to 40 minutes, making it suitable as a midway stop on a northern Pingtung itinerary rather than a standalone destination.
