Baishawan Beach is the longest white sand beach within Kenting National Park, stretching about 600 meters. The sand is fine and white, and the water is clear; it is the most representative swimming and water sports venue in southern Taiwan. Located on the northwest side of the Hengchun Peninsula, sheltered by the terrain, wave conditions are relatively calm and suitable for general visitors to swim and play in the water. Weekends and summer holidays attract dense crowds; weekday visits are recommended for a more comfortable experience.
Highlights of Baishawan Beach
The sand at Baishawan is composed of a mixture of coral reef fragments, shell fragments, and quartz grains — white and fine in color, soft underfoot. The beach faces the Taiwan Strait; during the Luoshan wind season in winter, wave conditions may increase and swimming safety decreases. In summer, conditions are relatively calm and it is a popular choice for family beach activities. The beach has lifeguards on duty (during the busy summer season), and operators on the beach provide water sports equipment rentals such as banana boats and floatboards.
Baishawan is near Ma'anshan and Jiachu Lake; the lush green backdrop makes it one of the better spots for photographing a panoramic view of the beach. At the southern end of the beach there is a reef area; at low tide you can observe small marine organisms in the reef tidal pools, but the reef surface is slippery so be careful. Nearby car parks fill up quickly on holidays; arriving early or taking the Kenting shuttle bus is recommended to avoid parking difficulties. The beach has public shower facilities and changing rooms, but usage numbers are high on holidays and maintenance conditions vary by season and management.
How to make the most of your visit
Practical information
Getting there and timing
- Baishawan is on the north side of Hengchun Township, about 8 km from Hengchun Town and about 12 km from Kenting Main Street. You can take the Kenting shuttle bus or rent a scooter to get there; parking is tight on summer holidays, so public transport is recommended.
- Lifeguard service hours are adjusted by season; there are permanent lifeguards during peak season (summer holiday and public holidays) but numbers may be reduced or withdrawn in the off-season. Confirm on-site safety management conditions before swimming.
- The shower facilities and car parks next to the beach are managed by the managing authority; a parking fee may be charged under the regulations. Confirm current fees on site.
Nearby connections
- Baishawan is near the Ma'anshan and Jiachu Lake area; there are a few ecology trails nearby for a brief exploration of the green hilly landscape behind the beach after swimming.
- Hengchun Old Town Walls is about 8 km from Baishawan; on the return leg at the end of the itinerary, you can stop by to visit the four gates — combining beach and historic site into a half-day itinerary.
- Eluanbi Lighthouse is about 16 km from Baishawan and can be combined into a full-day attraction circuit at the southern tip of the Hengchun Peninsula.
