Presenting the full spectrum of Taoyuan Hakka community life through language, food, faith, and crafts
📍 Taoyuan · Longtan District · Zhongzheng Road🎨 Cultural Park🔖 Permanent exhibition halls · 3D landscape murals · weekend Hakka market

Taoyuan is one of the municipalities in Taiwan with the highest proportion of Hakka residents, and the Taoyuan Hakka Cultural Center in Longtan District is the most comprehensive Hakka cultural showcase in the area. The center's permanent exhibition covers language, food, faith, and crafts, while outdoor 3D landscape murals and a music plaza extend cultural display beyond the interior. The plaza in front of the building regularly hosts a weekend Hakka market.

Highlights of Taoyuan Hakka Cultural Center

The cultural center was established by the Taoyuan City Government's Hakka Affairs Council, with an architectural design that integrates modern exhibition design with Hakka elements. The indoor permanent exhibition halls are divided into sections presenting the life changes of Taoyuan's Hakka community from their migration to Taiwan and land reclamation to the present, including interactive Hakka language audio stations, traditional farming and tea-making tools, festival costumes and religious artifacts. The content is accessible and engaging for both children and adults.

The "Rìtóuhuā Weekend Plaza" in front of the center periodically hosts Hakka music performances, craft markets, and seasonal events — the most lively space in the complex. The outdoor 3D landscape murals are designed to be viewed from overhead, offering clear photo opportunities with a fun interactive element. The overall setup is suited for family visits; pairing it with a local Hakka dining experience in Longtan creates a well-rounded cultural half-day outing.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

🎤
Interactive Hakka language experienceThe permanent exhibition features interactive Hakka pronunciation stations where visitors can listen to everyday vocabulary in different dialects including Hailu and Sixian. Ideal for visitors curious about the Hakka language.
📸
3D landscape photo spotThe outdoor plaza's 3D landscape murals are best photographed from a designated spot at a downward angle. The shooting position is marked on the plaza floor; using a phone mount for a higher angle improves the effect.
🛍️
Weekend market shoppingThe weekend market in the front plaza sells Hakka food products and handmade crafts, such as Hakka floral fabric, handmade ban tiao (flat rice noodles), and ground tea products. Check the center's official announcements for exact market dates.
🍵
Experience lei cha cultureSome weekend events offer hands-on lei cha (ground tea) making, where visitors grind various grains and nuts with a stone mill to prepare the drink — a signature Hakka food culture experience.
