Linkou Plateau Ridge Trail

Views of the Taoyuan coast and wind turbine clusters from the edge of a 200-meter plateau
📍 New Taipei · Linkou Plateau🏞️ Nature🔖 Ridge sea views

The Linkou Plateau stands at about 200 meters above sea level with its north side facing the Taiwan Strait. Several ridge trails run along the plateau edge. On a clear day, standing on the ridge, you can see the Taoyuan coastline and Guanyin Mountain in the distance, while large white wind turbines on the plateau edge turn slowly in the breeze. It is one of the few natural trail environments near the Taipei metropolitan area where sea views and wind energy infrastructure share the same scene.

What to see at the Linkou Plateau Ridge Trail

The Linkou Plateau is geologically composed of Pleistocene terrace deposits, with a flat-topped mesa form that slopes steeply on its north side down toward the Taiwan Strait. Several trails run along the northern edge of the plateau, ranging from concrete industry roads to forest earth paths. On a clear day with good visibility, looking north from the ridge you can see the Da'an and Guanyin areas of Taoyuan's coast; in exceptionally clear conditions, the outlines of ships at sea may even be visible.

The wind turbine cluster on the plateau edge is a visual landmark of the Linkou Plateau. Because the plateau faces the sea and winds are relatively strong, it suits wind power generation. Along the trail, you can observe large wind turbines up close. During the autumn–winter northeast monsoon season (roughly October through March), the turbines spin at their fastest. The trail's overall difficulty is low and suitable for general hikers, but some sections on the plateau have little shade — in summer, protect against sun and stay hydrated.

How to make the most of your visit

🌊
Sea view from the ridge viewpointChoose clear, low-humidity weather (autumn and winter have the best visibility). From the viewpoints on the north edge of the plateau, the Taoyuan coast can be seen in the distance. Morning sidelight creates clear layers across the plateau slope scenery.
💨
Up-close look at wind turbinesThe large turbines on the plateau edge can be observed at close range. During the autumn–winter northeast monsoon season (October to March), the blades spin fastest — the sound and visual impact are striking.
🥾
Ridge trail hikingTrail surfaces are mixed; wear sports shoes. In summer, shade is sparse — start early, bring enough water. All route sections are easy, suitable for general hikers.

Practical information

Getting there and timing

  • Driving is the primary option. Trailheads for Linkou Plateau trails are scattered; look up the specific trail name and coordinates before setting out to confirm your route.
  • Public transport: take the MRT Airport Line to Linkou Station and transfer by bus, but the trailheads are still some distance from the MRT station.
  • Trails are open all day. In summer, start before 7 to 9 a.m. to avoid the harsh sun. In winter, when northeast monsoon winds are strong, dress warmly and windproof.

Nearby connections

  • Linkou District is close to Taoyuan Airport; a route connecting to Guishan and Luzhu can be planned.
  • Heading east along the plateau extends to the Guanyin Mountain area (Wugu District), linking up with natural trails on New Taipei's west side.
