War and Peace Memorial Park was formerly a military stronghold on Beigan's Dawo Mountain. From 2003, it was developed into Taiwan's first memorial park themed on war and peace, covering approximately 38.8 hectares. The park preserves historical outposts numbered 06, 08, and 12, and displays decommissioned tanks, self-propelled guns, military vehicles, and various military facilities. The trenches that were once dug for combat purposes have been converted into a maze walkway for visitors to explore.
What to See at War and Peace Memorial Park
Dawo Mountain, where the park is located, was the core of Beigan's Cold War defense system, with complex military facilities deployed both above and below ground. After military operations ended in 2003, the Lienchiang County Government, operating on the concept of "war in the past, peace in the present," transformed the site into an open military memorial park — Taiwan's first attempt to preserve and display military heritage on such a scale. The park covers 38.8 hectares; allow ample time when visiting on foot.
The weapons and equipment on display include various models of decommissioned tanks, self-propelled guns, and military vehicles; most can be viewed up close and even climbed on, offering a wealth of information for visitors interested in military history. The maze walkway converted from trenches preserves the original depth and twists; walking through it, your height is suddenly reduced and your field of vision restricted, giving you a physical, intuitive sense of the design logic of combat trenches. Outposts 06, 08, and 12 each have different states of preservation; visiting each in turn is recommended.
