Bishan Lookout

Matsu's highest peak — the four-township, five-island panorama and outlying island clusters all within summit view
📍 Matsu · Beigan Township · Bishan📷 Landmark Attraction🔖 Highest peak in the Matsu Islands at 298 m · overlook of Beigan Airport · four-township, five-island panorama

At 298 meters, Bishan is the highest peak in the Matsu Islands, and its summit observation deck commands a view unmatched by any other point in the four townships and five islands. Beigan Airport runway, Tangqi town center, Houwo settlement, and surrounding waters all lie before you; on clear days, Daqiu, Xiaoqui, Gaodeng, and other uninhabited islands come into view one by one. It is the best vantage point for a comprehensive grasp of the geographic layout of the Matsu Islands.

What to See at Bishan Lookout

Bishan claims the title of highest peak in the Matsu Islands with its 298-meter elevation. Although this would not rank as high in Taiwan proper, on an island terrain surrounded on all sides by the sea, this height is enough to provide an almost unobstructed, all-directional view. The summit observation deck is well-equipped with directional signboards to help visitors identify the direction and name of each island. Beigan Airport runway looks spectacular from above, and propeller planes taking off and landing can be clearly watched in their entirety.

Under clear conditions, Bishan offers the best visibility of any viewpoint in the Matsu Islands: the outlines of Daqiu Island (habitat of wild sika deer), Xiaoqui, Gaodeng, and other uninhabited islands are crisp, and the view extends even further. Compared to Yuntai Mountain on Nangan, Bishan offers a wider and more diverse field of vision, with a stronger sense of overlooking all of Beigan Island, making it an unmissable high point on any Beigan itinerary. During the spring fog season (roughly March–May), summit visibility may be poor.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Visit

☀️
Choose a Clear Day to AscendDuring the spring fog season (March–May), summit visibility can be very poor. Confirm the weather in advance and choose a clear day to ascend for the full panoramic effect.
📸
