Tianwei Flower Garden

A roadside flower-cluster settlement that is Taiwan's largest wholesale and retail flower distribution center
📍 Changhua · Public Highway Flower Garden District, Tianwei Township🏞️ Nature🔖 Hometown of Flowers

Tianwei Flower Garden stretches along Provincial Highway 1, with more than 140 nursery businesses clustered along it — forming the largest flower retail distribution center in Taiwan. From December each year through February of the following year, the Chrysanthemum Festival is held, with nighttime light installations illuminating the flower fields to draw evening visitors. Because flower cultivation is dense and the variety of species is rich, Tianwei Township has long been known as the "Hometown of Flowers." For gardening enthusiasts it is an important destination for sourcing distinctive plants.

Highlights of Tianwei Flower Garden

Tianwei Township sits in the central Changhua Plain, with a mild climate and ample irrigation. Since the postwar period it has gradually developed into a specialized flower production zone. The businesses in the garden district are mostly family-run, growing everything from bedding plants and bonsai to foliage plants and cut flowers; some specialize in orchids, roses, or succulents. The entire garden zone covers a wide area stretching north and south along Provincial Highway 1 — walking the whole length is not practical; cycling or driving slowly is recommended.

The Chrysanthemum Festival runs from December through February of the following year (exact dates subject to annual announcements). During the festival, vendors display artistic chrysanthemum arrangements, and after dark the lighting combined with the flower beds creates a distinctive night scene — the period with the highest visitor numbers for the garden district. On ordinary days the garden district operates primarily as a wholesale and retail market; visitors can buy directly from growers at prices that are usually lower than regular flower markets, though you will need to bring your own way to transport purchases.
