Taian Hot Springs is located in the upper Daan River valley at an elevation of about 650 meters. The water is a sodium bicarbonate spring with a pH of approximately 8 to 9 — colorless and clear, with a notably silky feel on the skin, commonly nicknamed "beauty springs" (meiren tang). The hot spring area is surrounded by Atayal tribal settlements, and the valley terrain opens up broad views from the baths.
Highlights of Taian Hot Springs
The spring source is near the Daan River riverbed; multiple hot spring hotels are set along the hillside, some with outdoor pools that allow you to soak while looking out over the Daan River gorge and the ridgeline on the far side. The sodium bicarbonate water gives the skin a silky feeling and is one of the most distinctive spring waters in Miaoli County. Water temperatures are typically 40 to 45°C; hotel quality and facilities vary.
Taian Township is home to Atayal communities whose living culture is relatively well preserved. Some guesthouses and hotels offer indigenous meals or cultural experience activities. Nearby natural sights include the Simalian Forest Road and the Daan River riverbed, which can be incorporated as extended itinerary stops before or after the hot spring stay.
