Erlin Rouzong Cape is located along the western coast of Changhua County. The name comes from the narrow, triangular sandbar that juts into the sea, resembling the pointed end of a zongzi (rice dumpling). Nearby is the traditional fishing village of Wenzai Fishing Harbor. At sunset, the coastline takes on vivid colors as the light reflects off the sandbar and intertidal flats, making it one of Changhua's most popular coastal photography spots.

Highlights of Erlin Rouzong Cape Coast

The name Rouzong Cape comes from the triangular spit landform protruding into the sea. Such sand spit formations created by sediment accumulation are not uncommon along Taiwan's western coast, but the distinct shape of the landform near Erlin has earned it a particularly vivid local name. The surrounding area consists of extensive intertidal mudflats, which at low tide expose vast expanses of substrate where mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and other intertidal species can be observed.

Wenzai Fishing Harbor is an important traditional fishing village nearby. Small fishing boats are moored in the harbor, and local fishermen continue traditional inshore fishing methods. The scene is lively in the evening as boats return to harbor — you can watch the catch being unloaded from the harborside. At sunset, the entire coastline is bathed in orange and red, with a clear horizon line over the Taiwan Strait in the distance, making it a favorite golden hour for photographers.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

🌅
Sunset PhotographyThe coast faces west, making sunset the prime time to shoot. The sandbar silhouette pairs beautifully with the setting sun, and the best light lasts approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Arrive early to scout your position.

Intertidal Zone Wildlife ObservationAt low tide, the intertidal zone is exposed for close observation of fiddler crabs, mudskippers, and other species. Check a tide table and plan your visit around low tide — wear waterproof footwear.

Practical Information

Getting There & Timing

  • Erlin Township has no train station. Driving is required. From Changhua City, take Provincial Highway 17 south to Erlin Township, then head west to the coast — approximately 40 to 50 minutes in total.
  • The coast can be visited year-round. For sunset photography, autumn and winter (October to February of the following year) offer a more southerly sun position and better light quality. Check the day's tide table before visiting the intertidal zone.

Nearby Connections

  • Adjacent to the Zhutang Wetland Ecological Area (approximately 20 minutes east by car) — combine the river wetlands with the coastal landform for a full day of nature on Changhua's western side.
  • Heading north along Provincial Highway 17 leads to Wanggong Fishing Harbor in Fangyuan Township, which offers intertidal ecology tours and ox-cart experiences — another well-known stop along Changhua's western coast.
