In October 1949, near the end of the Chinese Civil War, the Battle of Guningtou was fought here. The ROC Army successfully repelled a PLA landing attempt, cementing Kinmen's strategic role as a front-line defense. The museum uses documents, weapons, and sand table models to fully reconstruct this three-day battle, making it an indispensable starting point for understanding Kinmen's modern history.

Highlights of the Guningtou Battle Museum

The Battle of Guningtou took place from October 25 to 27, 1949. After PLA troops crossed the strait and landed, the ROC Army launched a counterattack supported by armored units and ultimately annihilated the landing force on the beachhead. The battle halted the PLA's plans to continue crossing the strait to attack Taiwan and marked a decisive turning point in the history of the Chinese Civil War. The museum was built beside Guningtou Village, on the actual site where the battle was fought.

The museum displays light and heavy weapons, tank models, and communications equipment used in the battle, along with large-scale sand table models recreating the landing routes and counterattack positions. Extensive historical photographs and written records document the course of the fighting; some exhibits are objects recovered from the battlefield or surviving original items, preserving relatively complete physical evidence.
