📍 Miaoli · Tongluo Township · Zhongxing Village📷 Landmark🔖 Firecracker Vine · February Only · Flower Corridor Road

Around February each year, the firecracker vines along both sides of a county road in Zhongxing Village, Tongluo Township reach full bloom. Orange-yellow flower clusters cling to walls and utility poles, forming a flower tunnel corridor stretching several hundred meters. Because peak bloom often coincides with the Lunar New Year, this has become one of the most popular flower-viewing routes in Miaoli County during the holiday season, drawing long lines of slowly moving vehicles on weekends.

Highlights of Tongluo Firecracker Vine Road

Firecracker vine (Pyrostegia venusta) is a fast-growing tropical climbing plant with strong adhesion that spreads naturally over roadside walls and structures without deliberate planting, forming large-scale floral displays. Its dense, tubular orange-red flowers arranged in clusters resemble strings of firecrackers — hence the name. This stretch of county road in Zhongxing Village benefits from continuous roadside structures, creating a natural tunnel effect that ranks among the more visually complete firecracker vine sites in Taiwan.

The bloom period typically runs from late January to early March, with peak flowering around mid-February, depending on temperature and weather conditions that year. The orange color of the firecracker vine is most saturated under direct sunlight; the visual effect is best when light is sufficient between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Because the blooms grow naturally, the intensity of flowering varies slightly from year to year; checking recent bloom reports before going is recommended.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Visit

📅
Target the February Bloom WindowMain bloom period is late January to early March, peaking around mid-February. Timing the visit with the Lunar New Year holiday is popular, but heavy traffic on those days means allowing extra wait time.
🚶
Walk Through the Corridor on FootAfter parking, walk through the flower corridor rather than shooting from inside a vehicle — the view from a car is limited and walking lets you truly feel the density of the blooms. Look upward to capture the tunnel effect.
☀️
Go on a Sunny MorningThe orange of the firecracker vine is most vivid in direct sunlight; colors appear muted on overcast days or against the light. A sunny morning between 9 and 11 a.m. is ideal.
