A five-minute harbor crossing — Kaohsiung's most iconic waterborne perspective
📍 Kaohsiung · Gushan District, Ferry Pier📷 Landmark & Scenic Spots🔖 Ferry Experience · Harbor View

The Gushan–Cijin ferry route takes only about 5 minutes end-to-end, yet it is the most direct way to experience the atmosphere of Kaohsiung Harbor. Departing from Gushan Pier, the ferry crosses the main harbor channel, and during the short crossing you can feel the presence of massive cargo vessels passing close by and take in the full sweep of the Kaohsiung Harbor Bridge stretching ahead. The pier plaza itself is also a popular photography spot for viewing Cijin Peninsula.

Highlights of Gushan Ferry Pier

Gushan Ferry Pier is located in Gushan District adjacent to the historic Hamasen neighborhood, and is the most important terminal in Kaohsiung Harbor's public ferry system. The ferry line connects Gushan and Cijin with frequent departures throughout the day (every 10 to 20 minutes) at low fares. High ridership from daily commuters — rather than just tourists — keeps the ferry feeling lively and authentically local.

The ferry pier plaza faces Cijin Peninsula with a wide-open view that frames the Cihou Lighthouse hill, the silhouette of Cihou Mountain, and the arc of the Kaohsiung Harbor Bridge in a single composition — a richly layered scene for photography. In the evening, the setting sun shines in from the west across the water, and the interplay of golden reflections and vessel silhouettes in the port creates the most beautiful time of day at Gushan Pier. Bicycles can be brought aboard the ferry; riding up to Cijin is a popular local leisure activity.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

⛴️
Bring a BicycleYou can bring a YouBike or your own bike on the ferry. Once on Cijin, cycling along the island's ring road is the most free-spirited way to enjoy what it has to offer.
📸
Pier at DuskBetween 17:00 and 18:30 in the evening, the sunset light from the direction of the Taiwan Strait hits Gushan Pier at its best angle for photographing Cihou Lighthouse.
🚢
On-Board ViewStay on the side deck of the ferry during the crossing. The route is brief but gives you a clear view of the busy ships and water channels of Kaohsiung Harbor — no special equipment needed.
🌊
Weekday RideWeekends bring more tourists and bikes must queue to board. Taking the ferry on a weekday during commuter hours offers a more authentic feel of the harbor's everyday transport life.
