Kaohsiung Cultural Center has been in operation since 1981 and is the largest and most established comprehensive arts venue in southern Taiwan. Its main performance hall, Zhide Hall, seats over 2,500 people. On non-performance days, the sculpture plaza and central square become everyday spaces for residents to stroll and exercise. The center hosts regular arts festivals, music festivals, and exhibitions throughout the year.
Highlights of Kaohsiung Cultural Center
Kaohsiung Cultural Center occupies a large footprint. The complex includes Zhide Hall (a large concert hall), the Cultural Center Plaza, and exhibition halls — planned and established by the Kaohsiung City Government in 1981 as the earliest fully developed municipal arts center in southern Taiwan. The grounds contain a large collection of outdoor sculptures by prominent Taiwanese sculptors, forming an open-air sculpture park.
Zhide Hall has long been the largest performance venue in southern Taiwan, hosting renowned domestic and international symphony orchestras, gezai opera, pop concerts, and stage plays. The plaza hosts large-scale events during cultural festivals, book festivals, and New Year's celebrations each year. On ordinary days the shaded plaza is a green respite for neighborhood residents, carrying a strong sense of everyday city life.
