Linyuan District borders the Gaoping River estuary and is one of Taiwan's most important grouper aquaculture production zones, with extensive fish ponds creating a distinctive aquatic landscape. A waterfront trail runs along the coast with views toward Dapeng Bay to the east, offering a sense of the expansive coastal edge at Kaohsiung's southern boundary.

Highlights of Linyuan Coast

Linyuan District is the southernmost part of Kaohsiung City. The terrain extends from the Gaoping River alluvial plain to the coastline. Early on it was primarily agricultural; after the Linyuan Industrial Zone was established in the 1970s, industrial and agricultural activities coexist. Coastal aquaculture focuses on grouper, alongside milkfish, white shrimp, and other farmed species. The scale of production makes it a major aquatic supply base for southern Taiwan. During grouper harvest season, fishery activity is lively and animated.

The Linyuan Industrial Zone coast has a flat, easy-to-walk waterfront trail with views of the sea toward Dapeng Bay Lagoon and the distant Pingtung coastline. Near the trail you can observe the alluvial fan topography and estuarine ecology of the Gaoping River mouth. Parts of the Linyuan coast retain natural intertidal zones where benthic organisms can be seen at low tide. Restaurants in the area serve locally farmed grouper dishes directly — a clear, immediate connection between product and place.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

🐟
Taste GrouperLocal Linyuan restaurants serve live grouper steamed or in three-cup sauce — the most direct way to experience the local industry.
🌊
Coastal TrailWalk along the industrial zone's coastal trail to take in views of the sea toward Dapeng Bay. The wide-open vista is best in late-afternoon light.
🦑
Low-Tide Intertidal ZoneAt low tide (check tide tables), crabs, shellfish, and benthic creatures can be found along the intertidal shore — good for nature observation with children.
🏭
Industrial-Agricultural LandscapeThe coexistence of Linyuan's industrial smokestacks and fish ponds is a landscape unique to southern Taiwan's industrial heritage, worth documenting as a record of Kaohsiung's southern frontier.
